In  your English class you have been talking about the importance of travelling. Now your English teacher has asked you to write an essay.
WHY DO PEOPLE ENJOY TRAVELLING TO DIFFERENT PLACES?
Write about:
1.  learning about different cultures
2.  seeing beautiful places
3. ……..(your own idea)

Most people love travelling and visiting new places. The reason is of course learning and seeing new things as well as the fact that travelling broadens our horizons.
One of the main reasons why people travel is to explore different cultures. Visiting other countries helps them learn about other traditions and customs. They also get the chance to listen to music or taste types of food which are completely different to their own.
Another reason people enjoy travelling is because they want to see places that are different from the ones they are used to. So, for example, someone who lives in the city, would probably travel to a quiet island or the countryside and vice versa. This provides people with the pleasure of escaping routine.
Last but not least, travelling offers the opportunity of opening people’s minds to different ways of thinking. From the simple difference in manners to the way people greet each other when they meet,  travelling is the quickest way to understanding and respecting diversity.
All in all, travelling is one of the most significant experiences in people’s lives, not only because they see beautiful places or things but also because it broadens their horizons.

essay: nature vs. nurture

The issue of whether it is our upbringing or our genes which form our personality and abilities has always been a controversial one. While some maintain that it is the parents who determine a child’s development, others believe it is a matter of genetic inheritance.

It is true that genes play a primary role in the abilities or talents a young person may manifest while they are growing up. We often hear of prodigy children who are born by highly accomplished and intelligent parents. These children may demonstrate a particular inclination or innate talent such as reading or adding at a pre-school age. In such cases it is undeniable that their skills have been the product of genes not their environment.

However, one cannot ignore the fact that a person’s development is also determined by the environment in which they are being raised. A talent alone cannot flourish or even become evident unless it is encouraged and nurtured. If, for example, someone has an aptitude for music but has never had the opportunity to attend music lessons, there is little chance they will ever discover what that aptitude is. It is, therefore, up to the parents to help their offspring explore and expand any inclination they may have.

In conclusion, there is no clear-cut answer as to whether it is genes or indeed their upbringing which mold a young person’s tendencies. It is rather a balanced combination of the two which leads to the very discovery and development of their talents.

PROFICIENCY ESSAY: SCIENTISTS CLAIM THAT MANY OF OUR HEALTH PROBLEMS ARE ASSOCIATED with THE MODERN WAY OF LIFE. TO WHAT EXTENT DO YOU BELIEVE THAT TO BE TRUE?

Despite all our technological and medical advances, a great number of people seem to be less healthy in comparison to previous decades. There are a variety of reasons why this is the case two of which are our sedentary lifestyle as well as pollution and other health hazards.

First and foremost, technology has been integrated into our everyday life to such an extent that the average adult spends over 5 hours per day on a computer. For example, more and more people are employed in positions which require them to be glued to a screen for the better part of the day. As a result, there is lack of exercise which often leads to unhealthy eating habits and obesity. To make matters worse, young people seem to be following the same adult path. They lead, that is, sedentary lifestyles, by spending too much time on their computer or phone. As the whole world appears to be shrinking and fitting into a smart phone screen, our brain seems to spend all its energy on processing this abundance of information while our body remains stagnant and inactive.

Another factor for our health problems are all the substances that we breathe in and consume every day. These have become less tangible as we have grown accustomed to their role but they are omnipresent nevertheless. One only has to consider one's exposure to the noise pollution and exhaust fumes to realize how harmful this is to one's health. Not only does it elevate stress levels but it can also cause high blood pressure, irritation and headaches.  In addition, many chemicals are used in order to cultivate the fruit and vegetables  that we consume on a daily basis, which often prove dangerous to our health.

To conclude, our contemporary way of life is clearly affecting our physical condition. Our nutrition coupled with our sedentary lifestyle in an urban environment can have an adverse effect on our health.
