Introductions can be trick, no doubt about that! A lot of students get stuck when they want to start an essay. "How do I start?", "But isn't that  silly/ obvious/ boring?" "What do I say?" "What should be my first word?" All  very reasonable questions that students ask... :)  In general, we all know what we are meant to do in our intro but it is the 'HOW' that sometimes eludes us. So as a rule of thumb, especially when it comes to essays, make sure you REPHRASE the task; it's always the best way to start.
Let's say, for instance, your essay task is:
'Online shopping has been growing exponentially and young people in particular seem to prefer this type of shopping. What are the advantages and disadvantages of shopping online? ' ,
your intro could easily be something like this:
Nowadays, more and more people are choosing to shop online rather than browse in an actual shop. Although the older generation still has its suspicions, the younger one will support online purchases in most cases. Whether, however, shopping online has a positive effect on society and its economy has of course become a matter of much controversy.
If you read carefully, you'll see that almost everything has been rephrased and very little has actually been added. Aim to do this and your introduction will be perfect. If you want try and write your own introduction!
Good luck! :)
